Lionize Wins Doobie Award

Lionize won 2010 High Time Magazine Doobie Award for Best Reggae/Soul Record for ‘SPACE POPE AND THE GLASS MACHINE’ in Austin, TX this past Sunday (March 21st).

We are very excited about this, look for a review of the performance and award ceremonies in upcoming High Times Issues. We’d like to thank VAPIR VAPORIZERS for helping sponsor our trip and we look forward to seeing everyone on the road this April.

Lionize Nominated For Two High Times Awards

Lionize has just been nominated for TWO different HIGH TIMES magazine 2010 Doobie Awards. Best Reggae/Soul Record for SPACE POPE and Best Underground Artist of the year. We will be celebrating this with a performance at the Official High Times South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX on March 21st. 12 noon at EMO’s. Show and Award information posted below. Lionize is up against Matisyahu, Easystar Allstars and Tarrus Riley for the award. See you in Austin!

Lionize is featured in the January 2010 issue of MCLA The Lax Mag. Odd to be in a sports magazine, but the magazine’s top guys are music fans and Nate happened to play a little lacrosse back in the day.

excerpt from the interview:

AO: First time I met you, it was probably about a year ago, you were wearing a lacrosse T-shirt and being from Baltimore, MD area, does that make you a player at some point in your life?

NB: Yeah. I played my junior and senior of high school and then one year post high school. But I played year ‘round in the regular season and indoor and outdoor in the off-season.

We’d like to wish everyone a happy new year. Lionize had an incredible time in 2009 playing with some of our favorite bands and going to a ton of new places. After a a great november with Lee Scratch Perry and a rad ass NYE Tour with Clutch in December, we are now back in the studio finishing up our new album with Producer J.Robbins at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore, MD. We are pleased to announce that we will be doing our first ever remixed-dub tune with our friend Chali 2na (Jurrasic 5/Ozomatli) at the hip-hop helm of the track. There will be some more guests on the record, but we will announce those when the time is right. We are also going to be doing some really great shows in the coming winter/spring months including a stop at the SXSW Festival in Austin, TX. Stay tuned for more news on that as well. Along with the announcements of upcoming tours and festival stops, we will be revealing news on tons of new live footage and audio featuring old songs and the newest ones from our upcoming release. Thanks again for the continued support, and be on the look out for more news about the new record and new tour dates coming up very soon.

Refund This Guy’s Money

Berry Anderson of the Kansas City Pitch reviewed the Lee Scratch Perry show, at the Beaumont Club, in the “Last Night’s Show” section.

“Lionize was right behind him, smoothly nailing the jammy tempos and beats. Despite what I said above, I do have to give them props. However, I thought the look on Bergman’s face while he was playing was fuckin’ priceless. He looked like he was either ready to cry or murder someone. Playing backup for Lee Perry couldn’t have been an easy undertaking.”
